Why We Support Small Business Saturday
Posted on November 28, 2014
The 114th Hwy 55 opened today in Winston-Salem, NC. But really, Hwy 55’s 103rd small business opened today.
103 Hwy 55’s are franchised. Most are single store franchises, too; meaning one person or family owns and operates the restaurant.
The bulk of these franchises are owned by folks who started in the company as cooks, waiters, and waitresses. They gained the opportunity to buy a Hwy 55 through our unique ownership support system, which provides financing and support for hard-working individuals who want to own their own business. Around 50 former minimum-wage employees have now bought Hwy 55 franchises, and we’d love for that number to grow.
Which is why we whole-heartedly support tomorrow’s Small Business Saturday. Because we’re not a distant corporate chain or a hedge fund’s revenue stream. We’re a group of people connected together in a common mission: to cook amazing food and serve our guests and communities well.
If you decide to shop local tomorrow, we invite you to support an active member of your local business community: your nearest Hwy 55 franchisee. They’ll be happy to see you there.
